What is Mobility as a Service
Mobility as a Service (MaaS) is a new concept of mobility, involving the integration of multiple public and private transport services (LPT, ride-sharing, car-sharing, bike-sharing, scooter-sharing, taxi, car rental, etc.) into a single service, offering a real alternative to the private car:
- in a unique service, accessible via smartphone
- on a platform with many functions and a single payment system
- capable of responding in a customised manner to all specific mobility needs
Initiatives in Turin area
City of Turin, in collaboration with 5T Srl, has been carrying out a series of experiments within the MaaS paradigm in Turin context since 2016, providing citizens with more sustainable, intelligent and also more convenient modes of transport, through the provision of different incentives (cashback and/or voucher).
These initiatives are carried out with strong coordination between the City of Turin, the Piemonte Region, the Metropolitan City of Turin and the Piemontese Mobility Agency, which signed a memorandum of understanding relating to MaaS activities in 2021. The projects already active (e.g. BIPforMaaS project) are to be considered fully compatible and complementary with the municipal ones and will allow them to maximize their impacts.
